Exchange programs make studying abroad super easy! You’ll get to study at a university that’s partnered with Leiden University.
What to know about exchange programs

How It Works: You apply through Leiden University and must meet certain eligibility requirements.

Limited Spots: Spaces are limited, so participation isn’t guaranteed.

No Extra Tuition: You stay registered as a Leiden University student and won’t pay extra tuition fees to your host university.

Credits Count: With prior approval from your Board of Examiners, the credits you earn can count toward your degree at Leiden University.

When can you go on exchange?

During Your Bachelor’s Degree

Third Year: The ideal time for a semester abroad is your third year. You’ll start preparing for this during your second year.
- Fourth Year: You can also go abroad in your fourth year, but priority is given to third-year students.

Important: To qualify, you need to earn all 60 EC in your first year and maintain a high GPA.
Credits and Requirements

Elective Credits Only: Bachelor’s students can only go abroad to complete their elective credits.

Course Options: Take anthropology courses or electives from other degree programs.

Credit Minimum: You must complete at least 20 EC abroad. Courses cannot overlap with your current bachelor’s curriculum and must be at an academic level.
