Exchange programs make studying abroad super easy! You’ll get to study at a university that’s partnered with Leiden University.

What to know about exchange programs

• How It Works: You apply through Leiden University and must meet certain eligibility requirements.

• Limited Spots: Spaces are limited, so participation isn’t guaranteed.

• No Extra Tuition: You stay registered as a Leiden University student and won’t pay extra tuition fees to your host university.

• Credits Count: With prior approval from your Board of Examiners, the credits you earn can count toward your degree at Leiden University.

When can you go on exchange?

• During Your Bachelor’s Degree​

  • Third Year: The ideal time for a semester abroad is your third year. You’ll start preparing for this during your second year.

  • Fourth Year: You can also go abroad in your fourth year, but priority is given to third-year students.

Important: To qualify, you need to earn all 60 EC in your first year and maintain a high GPA.

 

Credits and Requirements

• Elective Credits Only: Bachelor’s students can only go abroad to complete their elective credits.

• Course Options: Take anthropology courses or electives from other degree programs.

• Credit Minimum: You must complete at least 20 EC abroad. Courses cannot overlap with your current bachelor’s curriculum and must be at an academic level.

• Host University Rules: Your host university may have additional requirements, so be sure to check!
