First year students

Welcome to your first year of cultural anthropology! We’re thrilled to have you join us on this incredible journey. Get ready to dive deep into the study of what makes us human. You’ll be asking big questions, challenging your perspectives, and discovering just how diverse and interconnected our world really is.

We’re all here to support you as you start this adventure, and we can’t wait to see where your curiosity and passion will take you. Welcome to anthropology - let’s make this journey unforgettable together!

Getting Started: Your First Steps

Here’s what you should focus on in your first few weeks:

  • Introduction Events: Don’t miss the orientation week (OWL/EL CID)! It’s the perfect time to get familiar with your program, meet your peers, and learn about the campus.

  • Join Us: Become a member of Itiwana to unlock benefits like study materials, discounts, and exclusive access to events.

  • Stay Organized: Use a planner or digital calendar to track important dates for lectures, assignments, and exams.

Academic Support

  • Study Groups: Join study groups or form your own through our association. Collaborating with others can make coursework less overwhelming.

  • Workshops: Attend the POPcorner's workshops on time management, exam preparation, and academic writing.

Social Life & Networking

University life isn’t just about hitting the books; it’s also about having fun and making connections!

  • Events and Activities: Join in on game nights, pub quizzes, cultural outings, or parties. They’re a great way to relax and meet new friends.

  • Excursions & Trips: Discover new places with us on international trips, or study tours.

  • Networking Opportunities: Attend our networking events to meet alumni, industry professionals, and fellow students and start building connections for the future.

Staying Balanced

University life can be intense, so don’t forget to take care of yourself:

  • Health & Well-Being: If you’re feeling overwhelmed, reach out to the study advisor or talk to us; we’re here to help.

  • Work-Life Balance: Make time for hobbies, exercise, and relaxing with friends to recharge.

  • Support System: Lean on us or your fellow students if you need advice or someone to talk to.
